Al-Jabir

About the journal

Scholarship that stays open, citable and free to build on.

Al-Jabir Journal is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by ResearchBuddy AI Ltd. We publish original research, review articles and methodological work under an APC model, without paywalls or a transfer of copyright.

A hearing for work that deserves one.

Al-Jabir exists because good research is still routinely lost to circumstance: an unfashionable topic, an institution without a subscription budget, a field too narrow for the big titles to staff a reviewer for. We take that work seriously.

Our commitment is procedural rather than promotional: every submission gets a real reading, every desk rejection comes with a reason, and every accepted article is released under CC BY 4.0 with a registered Crossref DOI.

Named for the tradition of completion and balancing.

Al-jabr, the restoring of a quantity and the balancing of two sides, gave algebra its name and its method: state the problem plainly, then work it until both sides agree.

It is a fair description of peer review as well, and a reminder that the scholarly record has always been built by many hands across many languages.

What we publish.

Four broad sections, each handled by editors who publish in the area themselves.

  • Sciences & Engineering

Computational methods, applied mathematics, environmental and materials science, and engineering practice.

  • Social Sciences

Development studies, education, public policy and quantitative sociology, with a bias toward field evidence.

  • Humanities

History of science, philology and textual scholarship, including the algebraic tradition the journal takes its name from.

  • Interdisciplinary

Work that falls between established sections, where conventional journals struggle to find a reviewer.

From submission to DOI, in four stages.

Median time from submission to first decision is 3-4 weeks. You can check the current stage at any time from the OJS dashboard, and see who handles each section on the editorial board page.

  1. Editorial screening

An editor checks scope, ethics approval and reporting completeness within five working days. Desk rejections are explained, never silent.

  2. Double-blind review

At least two independent reviewers assess the manuscript. Identities stay concealed on both sides for the full duration.

  3. Revision

Authors respond point by point. Handling editors keep the same reviewers wherever possible so the thread of the critique is not lost.

  4. Publication

Accepted articles are typeset, assigned a Crossref DOI and released open access under CC BY 4.0, typically within three weeks of acceptance.
